Myofascial Release

The fascia, or connective tissue, is an interconnected network that runs throughout the entire body covering organs, muscles, bones and nerves. Through our daily lived experiences, repetitive motions and chronic stress, the fascia holds onto these patterns and can start to distort from its original shape. Depending on the severity of the distortion, it can create immense discomfort, chronic pain and/or trigger points.

Have you ever been sitting for a long time, and as soon as you can stand up, you notice you may want to stretch in a certain direction, without necessarily thinking about it. This phenomenon is a process known as “unwinding” which is defined as “the body stretching itself.”

When attuned to this system, the practitioner can feel into the direction the fascia is asking to be moved and support the movement of flow in accordance with the bodies wisdom. This may happen through specific myofascial techniques and pressure, rocking, or fascial stretching. This style of massage is often slowed to the pace and rhythm of the tissue itself, as it moves through its unwinding process.

Myofascial release has the capacity to provide lasting therapeutic benefits in combination with consistent effort on the client’s behalf while off the table (mobility and strength exercise and/or physical therapy).
